Margarita
Carreras, using her international background to inspire her visual
sense of graphics, she created a fresh approach to decorative and
functional home accessories. Her pieces bring you a unique sense
of color and form through her process of reverse hand painting on
glass.
Art
Under Glass is a self-taught, hand painted technique using acrylics,
gold leaf, and other mediums. Each piece conveys a bold powerful
graphic statement combining texture, color and movement inducing
a visual richness and depth. Original in style her work evokes a
sensual interpretation of the theme she uses.
Margarita
Carreras, was born in Havana, Cuba in 1958. One of her strongest
creative influences was the world she grew up in. Through her father's
association with Marcel Breuer, the family lived in architecturally
enriched environments such as Paris and other major cities. Her
youth was enhanced by a variety of cultural experiences exposing
her to a world of sophistication in design. Living, working and
studying in New York City most of her adult life became an integral
part of her design development. Margarita studied graphics at Parsons
School of Design.
Each
individual work of art is uniquely created and designed to be one of a
kind. The method of reverse hand painting is applied on glass in lieu
of canvas. Acrylic paint, as well as, gold and silver leaf is used, to
become part of the textural aesthetic.
After final revisions
are made to the painting, a thin rice paper is placed over the artwork,
so that various coasts of glaze may be applied to create a seal.
These beautiful pieces
of art are not only decorative, but offer any functional uses as well.
All platters, bowls and trays are food safe, yet must be hand washed to
preserve the finish.
