Glass
artist Raimundas born in Lithuania, educated and trained in Italy
and Austria, specializes in the rare art of engraving, carving,
and etching on fine lead crystal and quality glass. Fiber artist
Raminta born in Chicago graduated from the Art Institute of Chicago
majoring in textiles. For over 30 years they have collaborated and
combined techniques and talents. Their artwork is represented by
numerous fine galleries, museums, and in juried exhibitions throughout
the United States.
Some
of Raimundas' earliest childhood recollections were enhanced by
marvelous rainbows radiating from crystals. Those exciting images
captured and obsessed him, and hence evolved into a form of art
playing a significant part in his life. Raminta's exploration of
colors in fiber, weaving, direct-dye applications, etc. continue
in glass mastery.
They
use dichroic glass to create visual statements that challenge the
viewer's perception of color and structure. This glass in combination
with glass bevels and glass jewels are further detailed with hand
engraving, a technique that is slowly disappearing. Their use of
dichroic glass combines high technology with art. This rare, space
age glass both refracts and reflects light, causing colors within
their art glass pieces to shift dramatically. Classic and modern
architectural forms have inspired them to create a series of optically
kinetic sculptures and functional art glass. Raimundas and Raminta
continually explore the interplay of light and reflections in glass
with innovative designs consummating in a union of mind, heart,
and spirit.
